Introducing

Agnisumukh: Revolutionizing Eco-Friendly Cooking with Patented Flameless Technology

Professional chefs in commercial kitchens, whether working in small or 5-star restaurants, encounter similar issues. Our stakeholders consist of chefs, cooks, and maintenance personnel who ensure that the equipment runs smoothly.

PROCESS AND ARCHITECTURE

Inventory - A Large One.

Gaining a thorough understanding of the business was crucial for Agnisumukh. Our team of designers observed users in real-life kitchen environments to identify and map the right problems.

By spending time in various kitchens where our flameless cooking systems and eco-friendly commercial kitchen equipment were installed, we were able to capture the daily habits of chefs and cooks and identify problems that were not apparent to long-time equipment users.

Industrial Design Ideation

Inventory - A Large One.

Agnisumukh faced a challenge in meeting the custom requirements of prestigious brands like ITC, Akshaya Patra, and the Indian Army, resulting in a massive inventory pile-up and high manufacturing and tooling costs. Additionally, maintenance and assembly efforts were redundant, leading to raised operational costs.

To address this issue, Agnisumukh developed a universal ecosystem using ideation and design thinking methods to evaluate priorities and demands. They created six basic blocks that could be combined to produce various product combinations, resulting in a scalable product mix. With their skills in building scalable product architectures, they were able to create reusable parts with the same tooling to produce multiple variations of required applications, leading to better buying choices.

Understanding the product architecture

Using paper prototypes allowed the team to quickly ideate and test various designs and layouts for the six basic blocks. By creating physical representations of their ideas, the team could better evaluate each design’s strengths and weaknesses, identify areas for improvement, and optimize the design before committing to the costly manufacturing process.

Industrial design process and architecture

One Product - Scalable Product Architecture

Our aim was to streamline their production process by reducing the number of SKUs they were manufacturing. To achieve this, they utilized a scalable product architecture that allowed them to create a single product that could be adapted for different applications.

With the help of design thinking methods, Analogy identified six basic blocks that could be combined to create various product combinations. These blocks were designed to be reusable, allowing them to produce different variations of products using the same tooling. This not only helped reduce manufacturing and tooling costs but also streamlined the maintenance and assembly processes, resulting in lower operational costs.

Analogy’s scalable product architecture enabled them to cater to a diverse range of customer requirements, from small kitchens to large commercial kitchens, while keeping their manufacturing costs low. This approach also made it easier for customers to select the right product for their needs, as they could choose from a range of pre-defined combinations instead of having to customize their product from scratch.

Industrial Design Ergonomics

The Dashboard

To optimize the experience of kitchen staff and help them make the most of the product, we recognized the significance of control interfaces, height of the appliances and automation features.

Through focused ethnographic studies, we gained insight into their pain points and designed the range of appliances with adjustable controls and modular surfaces to reach key controls for service and maintenance.

Technolgy Development

Tech Credibility

To improve their product range, the client, a pioneer in radiant heat technology and an adherent to 15 of the 17 UN SDG goals, required a clear design process to showcase their sophisticated heating solution. Their existing products lacked consistency in design language, shape, and materials.

Our solution involved implementing a consistent design language across all products to establish a credible-looking and functioning product range. We also used materials that indicated function and added sophistication by removing visual clutter.

We designed the burners and equipment to be scalable, allowing for various configurations to suit different kitchen spaces, ranging from small 6×4 ft spaces to large international brand kitchens.

Modular Architecture

After observing the inventory, we identified a major challenge – a large number of individual products with overlapping functions. Our team’s iterative process led to the creation of modular attachments that could group functionalities of similar nature, reducing the number of SKU’s being manufactured as individual products.

We designed three main cooking bases that housed modular burners to fit a variety of scenarios. This resulted in a reduced cost on inventory, tooling, and manufacturing while also increasing the range of expandable features.
