Outdoor Gear For Wildcraft

The Challenge
Wildcraft faced the challenge of creating a smart backpack and smart shoe that balanced innovation, comfort, and everyday practicality. Existing products struggled with poor ergonomics, unclear value, and fragmented user experiences.

Research Driven Product Architecture
Analogy Design began by studying user behavior, urban mobility patterns, and outdoor gear usage across daily routines. Through user research and ideation, the team identified friction points around security, charging access, and device interaction. Industrial design, 3D modeling, and CAD engineering were used to build a product architecture where smart features felt embedded rather than added. This technical foundation ensured the backpack remained intuitive, durable, and scalable for manufacturing.
In 2019, Analogy Design developed the Wildcraft Smart Backpack and Smart Shoe to redefine how technology fits into outdoor gear for travel.
Two smart products designed to move, adapt, and perform together.
The story began with understanding how users transition between walking, commuting, and exploration throughout the day. While the backpack addressed storage, power, and security, the smart shoe focused on movement, activity data, and physical engagement. Through user research and ideation, both products were designed to share a common visual language rooted in the Vivid Shadow theme.Industrial design, 3D modeling, and rapid prototyping were used to align form, ergonomics, and technology across both products. The smart shoe combined urban styling with outdoor proportions and integrated sensors to track step count, calories burned, and altitude. Together, the backpack and shoe formed a cohesive smart product system that blended functionality, aesthetics, and everyday usability.

The problem
Always At Risk Of Theft
Urban commuting and travel expose bags and gear to constant risk of theft and tampering. Open zippers, visible seams, and exposed access points make smart backpacks easy targets in crowded environments.

Disconnected Smart Experiences
Smart products often operate in isolation, creating fragmented user experiences. Without synchronization between lifestyle products, users lose continuity across movement, storage, and digital interaction.

Heavy Gear That Slows You Down
Bulky construction and poor weight distribution cause physical strain during long commutes and daily use. Many smart products prioritize hardware over ergonomics, resulting in fatigue and discomfort.

Analogy Design translated user research into an integrated smart backpack and smart shoe.
A unified smart ecosystem designed for security, movement, and everyday performance.
The solution focused on building security directly into the product architecture rather than relying on visible hardware. Industrial design and CAD engineering enabled features like concealed zippers, covered seams, and an anti-theft hood, reducing vulnerability without visual noise. Rapid prototyping validated usability, durability, and weight balance across real-world scenarios. To eliminate fragmentation, Analogy Design aligned both products through shared design language, integrated technology, and a unified mobile app experience. The smart backpack delivered power management, storage, and protection, while the smart shoe captured movement data such as step count, calories burned, and altitude. Together, they formed a seamless lifestyle system that balances form, function, and user experience.

“ I would say this journey was something which was a discovery for me, which was a discovery for our teams and it set the tone for futuristic products which we started launching after that and that journey enabled us to connect with the consumer in the way we do today and that is something which is highly recommended that everybody should go through that journey and do their critical work. A great thanks to analogy as a team for the support and the fabulous work which we did”
